More support for vulnerable children: Launch of a new grant program

PRESS RELEASE, 19 August 2026

More support for vulnerable children: Launch of a new grant program

With the support of the European Union, over 500 children at risk will have access to social services and community programs designed to prevent neglect, abandonment and separation from their families. These services will help children and families receive the support they need within their own communities, thereby helping to strengthen the child protection system in the Republic of Moldova.

To ensure wider access to community services, Keystone Moldova is launching a grant competition for civil society organizations. This funding opportunity is part of the “Stronger Civil Society, Safer Childhoods: Supporting Moldova’s Child Care Transformation” project.

The project is financed by the European Union and co-financed and implemented by Keystone Moldova, Child, Community, Family (CCF Moldova), and Partnerships for Every Child. Through its activities, the project contributes to strengthening the child protection system, in line with the priorities of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection and in close collaboration with it.

With European funding, community services and programs will be set up to provide a safer environment for vulnerable children within their own communities, by creating reliable local alternatives that contribute to the protection and balanced development of children. Furthermore, activities will also focus on programs designed to improve parents’ caregiving skills in order to minimize situations of risk.

Civil society organizations with experience in setting up or developing services for children and families at risk are invited to take part in the competition. This initiative aims to promote collaboration between non-governmental organizations and local public authorities, in order to ensure the continuity of services once the funded projects have come to an end.

At least seven grants will be awarded under this call for proposals, with an implementation period of up to 18 months. The total budget for this call for proposals is 294,000 euros.

Full details regarding the conditions of participation and the required documentation are available on the Keystone Moldova website: https://www.keystonemoldova.md/ro/anunturi/concurs-de-granturi-pentru-osc-pentru-dezvoltarea-serviciilor-si-programelor-comunitare-de-prevenire-a-separarii-de-familie-si-institutionalizarii-copiilor/. Applications may be submitted electronically by 28 September 2026, and the results of the competition will be announced within three months of the closing date for applications.

The “Stronger Civil Society, Safer Childhoods: Supporting Moldova’s Child Care Transformation” project aims to strengthen the role of civil society organizations and to broaden access for children at risk and their families to sustainable, community-based protection services.
