European Dialogue in Chișinău on Inclusive Support for Refugees and Host Communities

On September 11, 2026, Keystone Moldova participated in the visit of Hadja Lahbib, European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, to the Residential Center for Older Persons and Persons with Disabilities in Chișinău. The visit brought together representatives of central public authorities, international organizations, and civil society for a dialogue on support for refugees and their long-term inclusion in national systems.

The program included a presentation of the Center’s activities, discussions with refugees from Ukraine, and a dialogue involving the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, Keystone Moldova, and UNHCR. Keystone Moldova was represented by Corina Gribincea, Refugee Projects Coordinator, who spoke about the organization’s experience in supporting refugees in vulnerable situations.

“Our experience shows that refugees with disabilities, older persons, and families in need of support must be able to access inclusive, coordinated, and community-based services. Dialogue among public authorities, international partners, and civil society is essential for transforming humanitarian assistance into sustainable solutions. ”- Corina Gribincea, Refugee Projects Coordinator, Keystone Moldova

In partnership with UNHCR, Keystone Moldova provides refugees with information and psychosocial support, referrals to specialized services, and assistance in accessing healthcare and social protection services, assistive devices, essential goods, and community activities.

The visit created an important space for discussing the continuity of support and the development of accessible, inclusive, and sustainable services that respond to the needs of refugees, people with disabilities, older persons, and host communities. Cooperation among public authorities, international partners and civil society is essential for building support systems that are closer to people and grounded in respect for the rights of every individual.
