The project People with Disabilities – Actors in Preventing and Combating Discrimination aims to ensure the participation of people with intellectual disabilities in preventing and combating discrimination on grounds of disability. In order to achieve the goal of this project, a group of people with intellectual disabilities, deprived of the right to live in the community (GPID) was created and empowered to recognize discriminatory situations on the grounds of disability and to exercise rights stipulated in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
This group shall undertake actions to promote the rights of persons with disabilities to live in the community and shall require from local and central authorities to expedite the implementation of Article 19 "Living independently and being included in the community" of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
As a result of the project's implementation:
- 15 persons with intellectual disabilities will be informed of their rights and will become active promoters of non-discrimination on disability grounds.
- 15 specialists will be trained in communication using easy-to-understand language and the correct way to support decision-making by people with disabilities.
- 15 professionals who assist people with disabilities will be trained in the methods and techniques to provide support to beneficiaries in the process of self-determination.
- Many promotional materials will be developed to promote the right of persons with disabilities to live in the community.
A major result expected by the project implementation team is to increase confidence of people with disabilities so they can assume active roles in promoting, monitoring, and influencing policies in the non-discrimination area and ensuring equal opportunities.
